Moved from Abbottsford Victoria to Mount Gambier 1888.

Second Subaltern accompanying the South Australian second Contingent is a native of Abbotsford, Victoria where he was born on April 21st, 1861.  His father, the late Mr. Geroge Lynch, was Deputy Sheriff of Melbourne for over 30 years.  Lieutenant Lynch was educated at teh Scotch College, Melbourne, and was subsequently apprenticed to Messrs Sands and McDougall, the wholesale stationers, where he rose to be head of a departement.  In 1888, he purchased a stationer's business in Mount Gambier, SA, which he has carried on over 11 years.  His military career dates back to 1890, when he joined the Mounted Rifles at Mount Gambier.  In 1897, he received his commission.  Lieutenant Lynch has proved the possession of mroe than ordinarty ability in the comand of Mounted Riflemen.
