Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Charles Mansergh volunteered for the 2nd Draft of the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen. Murray notes in the AWM Boer War Nominal Roll that all but one of the members of the draft had served previously in either the 3rd QMI or 4th QIB contingents in South Africa. They were assembled as reinforcements for the 5th and 6th QIB contingents already in South Africa. The draft embarked for South Africa in Sep 1901.

No records could be found for a Charles Mansergh as having previously served with either the 3rd QMI or 4th QIB. The AWM Nominal Roll notes a Charles Mansergh served with the NSW 3rd Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse and his Attestation Paper, dated 24 Mar 1902, is held by National Archives. On the paper he records he had previously served with the NSW Citizen Bushmen Contingent (as Charles James Mansergh) but does not mention any prior service with the 6th Qld Imperial Bushmen.

Men in the 2nd draft of the 6th QIB were not recorded in the original nominal roll for the 6th QIB. He is however, recorded in the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB (to which he was allotted), Bk 4 p. 125, which unfortunately, does not provide forther information on where he was from or of a N.O.K. The service paybooks notes he was invalided from service and returned to, and was discharged in, Brisbane on 16 Jan 1902.
