Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
When Fred (Frederick) Marks enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father W. Marks, Cooper's Plains. In the original Nominal Roll for the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, it is noted his N.O.K. was his father William Marks, Cooper's Plains.
Frederick Marks was born on 11 Nov 1875 in Queensland, a son to William Marks and Naomi Marks (nee Norris). His father was one of the earliest squatters in the Logan district. Frederick passed in 1944 and the inscription on his headstone at the Ipswich Cemetery records his Boer War service.
