When James May enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as J. May, Taylor's Siding, Crow's Nest. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 88, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his father Mr J. May, Taylors Siding, Crows Nest line.

James William Taylor was born on 23 Apr 1871 at Tarnagulla, Victoria, a son to John May and Elizabeth Ellen May (nee Small). He married Catherine Cecilia Hogan in 1910 at Bourke, NSW, and they had 2 children and lived in the Temora district, NSW.
