He served in both the South African (Boer) war and WW1. First service was as a Private S.N. 41 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second Service was as a Corporal S.N. 58214, 6th (Queensland) Reinforcements AIF, WW1.
When James Alexander McClintock enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as William Dobson, Upper North Pine River. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 1 p. 59, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his uncle Mr. W. Dobson, Mt Pleasant Post Office, Upper North Pine.
He enlisted again in 1918 for WW1 while living at Rifle Range, Brisbane. In his Attestation Paper, dated 11 Mar 1918, it is noted that; he was born at Brisbane and was 35 years 4 months of age; he was married and working as an engine driver; his N.O.K was his wife Margaret Edith McClintock, Rifle Range, Brisbane; and that he had previously served in South Africa. His service records indicate he embarked from Sydney on 4 Sep 1918 and enroute he suffered a bronchitis/pneumonia episode and was disembarked at Fremantle, and returned to Sydney for discharge.
James Alexander McClintock was born at Brisbane on 30 Nov 1881, a son to William Henry Alexander McClintock and Sarah McClintock (nee Dobson). He married Margaret Edith Strain on 24 May 1905 in Queensland and they had 5 children.
