Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

WAR VETERAN
VETERANS of the South African Boer War gathered at the Cornelian Bay cemetery, Hobart, at the funeral of one of their comrades who died on Monday. He was Mr. John McCormick, who was 74 years of age. Except for a short period, Mr. McCormick fought throughout the South African campaign as a scout with the 17th Lancers. He won the D.S.O. and King's and Queen's Medals, and was five times mentioned in despatches. He attained the rank of Lieutenant. Mr. McCormick's body was carried through the streets yesterday on a gun carriage, and at the funeral service the "Last Post" was sounded.
Among the large gathering at the funeral was Major R. L. Underwood (representing the Governor), Capt. A. A. Davis. (representing Brig. Hurley and the Army), Capt. E. W. Lacey (official representative of the South African Veterans' Association), and Messrs. H. A. Miller and R. Vincent, from the Hutchins School.
Chief mourners were three brothers, Messrs. A. McCormick, C. S. McCormick and F. McCormick, a nephew, Mr A. McCormick, and two brothers-in-law, Messrs. H. T. Bradford and H. J. Baynton. Pall bearers were Messrs. W. Dawes, J. Riley, A. Keen and N. Lee, all Boer War veterans. Funeral arrangements were by Clark Bros., Hobart.
