Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When John McGregor enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs. J. McGregor, Albion. In the original Nominal Roll for the 6th QIB, p. 5, held by National Archives, it notes that his N.O.K. was his mother, Mrs. J. McGregor, Albion. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 92, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. L. McGregor, Alice St, Albion.

John McGregor was born on 23 Oct 1876 in Queensland, a son to John McGregor and Louisa Caroline McGregor (nee Deuble).

It appears his father had passed prior to him enlisting in 1901. His mother passed in 1914 with her newspaper published death notice indicating she passed at her residence "Glen Gyle", Fiveways, Albion. In her subsequent funeral notice, friends of her children including Mr. and Mrs. John McGregor, were requested to attend. It appears her son John had married prior to 1914, the details of which have not been ascertained. In his Boer War Dossier it is noted that an application for repatriation benefits in relation to his service was made in Jun 1962.
