46-YEAR ERROR
UNCORRECTED
SYDNEY, Tues: After 46 years a Sydney Boer War veteran is trying to have a mistake in his discharge papers corrected. Sixty-six-year-old Claud McPhee, of-Ashfield, says he enlisted in the NSW Citizen Bushmen's Contingent on January 31, 1900, but his discharge papers put the date as February 7, 1899— before the Boer War began. He took the papers to Victoria Barracks, from where he was referred in turn to Base Records, Canberra, the NSW Chief Secretary's Department, the Mitchell Library and the
Repatriation Department. But still the mistake has not been corrected.
