When Charles Edward Mitchell enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. E. Mitchell, 36 Sicily St, Sydney.

Charles Edward Mitchell was born about 1876, a son to George Mitchell and Ellen Mitchell (nee Toward). He married Charlotte Ealing on 24 Dec 1902 in Queensland and they had 4 children. He was elected as a committee member of the African War Veterans' Association in Brisbane in 1932. He was last living at Commercial Road, Fortitude Valley, when he passed in 1951.
