Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Harold Collison Morley was incorrectly transcribed in the Boer War Nominal Roll by Murray. He was born Harold Duke Collison-Morley on 30 Nov 1877 at Clapham, Greater London, England, a son to Dr. John Lacey Collison-Morley and Marion Collison-Morley. He married Olive Wood (b. Natal, South Africa) and they had one child.

He studied at St Paul's, The Slade School and later at Julian's (Academie Julian), Paris, France where he studied art gaining proficiency in pencil and ink sketching. He travelled widely including to Australia, Hong Kong and Japan. He found himself in Australia in 1900 and enlisted with the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen to serve in the South African (Boer) War. He continued with his art while serving producing an ink and pencil drawing titled 'Imperial Bushmens Contingent, Queensland / Arcadia Camp, Pretoria, August 1900' held by the State Library Qld- see link on this profile.

During his Boer War service with the Queensland Contingent he was nominated for a commission in the Imperial Army by Field-Marshal Lord Roberts. Its unclear if he returned to Queensland for discharge or proceeded direct to England where he took a commission with Lancashire Fusiliers. He later transferred to The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) with the rank of Lieutenant Colnel and served in France in WW1 where he was killed in action at Loos in 1915.
