Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

His surname is incorrectly recorded by Murray as Moroske, correct spelling is Maroske as shown in the original nominal roll for the 6th QIB and the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB.

When George Maroske enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as G. Maroske, Terlinga Station, Eidsvold, Qld. in the original nominal roll for the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, his N.O.K. is recorded as being his father.

George Maroske was born on 17 May 1881 at Millicent, South Australia, a son to George Maroske and Amelia Maroske (nee Cream). His father had emigrated as a boy with his parents from England to South Australia. His father went into sheep farming in South Australia and ventured to Queensland for better opportunites, and was granted a selection near Eidsvold that would become Terlinga Station.

After returning from the Boer war, Geroge Maroske jnr ventured to Cloncurry where he became a retail businessman. At the time of his sudden passing in Dec 1928 he was the owner and operator of a Drapery Business; a Jewellery Business; and a Newsagency/Refreshment Room Business, all in Cloncurry township.
