When he enlisted in 1899 in the 1st QMI and his details were published with the rank and file in The Brisbane Courier, 18 Nov 1899, he was recorded as Private W. A. Morris, single, Tinana, Maryborough. He was invalided from service due to enteric fever returning aboard Damascus to Brisbane where he was discharged on 8 Sep 1900.
William Arthur Morris was born on 4 Jan 1873 at Brisbane, a son to William Morris and Catherine Morris (nee Keanally). He married Elizabeth Pauline Zimmerlie on 21 Dec 1901 in Queensland and they had 1 child. When he passed in 1942 an obituary was published in the Maryborough Chronicle as transcribed below.

News was received yesterday of the sudden death at Charleville of Mr. William Arthur Morris of Tinana. The late Mr. Morris, who was 68 years of age, was born at Brisbane, and as a child came to Maryborough with his parents who settled at Gympie-road, Tinana. He was educated at the Tinana State School and afterwards was employed by Warrys Ltd. and J. E. Brown and Sons as a carter. Seeking another vocation Mr. Morris went to Tingoora where he took over the license of the Tingoora Hotel for a period. On his return to Maryborough he was employed by Walkers Ltd. and retired about ten years ago. The late Mr. Morris was a veteran of the Boer War, and for many years past has been a member of the Maryborough sub-branch R.S.S.A.I.L.A. For about 26 years he was a member and regular attender at Maryborogh City Rifle Club shoots retiring from active participation in the sport eight years ago. For the last few years Mr. Morris resided with his only brother, Mr. Alfred John Morris, Tinana. Two months ago he went to Charleville where he died. He is survived by his widow and one son- kitchener Morris (Brisbane).
