Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
At the time of enlistment in 1901 this soldier was recorded by Murray on the nominal roll and in The Queenslander newspaper as John Mulhall, and in the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB as John Alfred Mulhall. His Boer War Dossier compiled in 1956, the year he died, records him as John Alfred Mulhall whereas his gravesite headstone records him as John Alfred Francis Mulhall.
When John Mulhall enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his sister Mrs. S Larkins, Kings Creek, Nobby, Qld. His birth registration does not appear on the online BDM Qld historic records, however, his Boer War Dossier compiled in 1956 provides a date and place of birth in 1879, with his parents obtained via his death registration in 1956 on BDM Qld. It should be noted his gravesite headstone notes his year of birth as 1881 and the BDM death register notes it as 1882.
Based on information contained in his Boer War Dossier, John Alfred Mulhall was born on 6 Apr 1879 at Mill Hill, Warwick, a son to Joseph Michael Mulhall and Sophia Mulhall (nee Lawrence). Under the name John Alfred Francis Mulhall he married Celia Frances Edmonds on 24 Apr 1905 in Queensland and they had 4 children.
