When Francis Charles Muller enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father P. Muller, Mountcastle and Sons, Brisbane. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 2 p. 147, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his father Mr. P. T. E. Muller, Royal St, Paddington. His father worked for the renowned hat and apparel manufacturer/merchant B. Mountcaslte and Sons.

Francis Carl (Charles) Muller was born on 14 May 1881 at Preston, Victoria, a son to Paul Theobald Edward Muller and Alice Muller (nee Daykin). He married Eliza Dobe on 27 Dec 1909 at Brisbane.
