After completing his service with and discharge from the $th Queensland Imperial Bushmen in the South African (Boer) War, it appears George Stealey Mumford retruned to South Africa to enlist in a South African unit. Records of South African Units that served in the Boer War, held by The National Archives, London, England show that George S Mumford (previously of the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen) served as a Corporal S.N. 17447 in the Western Light Horse. It appears his service was brief enlisting 9 May 1902 and discharged when unit was disbanded on 30 Jun 1902 (source Anglo Boer War Site, copies of records for South African Units- Western Light Horse, held by the National Archives, London, England).
