Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Note- His marriage registration indicates that his full name was Alexander Jamison Munro. His eldest brother Thomas Gascoyne Munro, S.N. 9 2nd Queensland Mounted Infantry, also served in the South African (Boer) War.

When Alexander Munro enlisted in 1899 in the 1st QMI and his details were published in The Brisbane Courier, 18 Nov 1899, he was recorded as Private A. Munro, single, Oriel Road, Albion, Brisbane. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 1st QMI, Bk 1 p. 77, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. A. Munro, Albion. He served the full tour of the 1st QMI returning to Brisbane where he was discharged 23 Jan 1901.

Alexander Munro Jnr. was born in 1883 in the district of Kelvin, Glasgow, Scotland. the youngest of 3 sons to Alexander Munro Snr. and Jane Duncan Munro (nee Mackie). He emigrated with his parents and siblings to Australia in 1899 settling in Brisbane where his father followed his trade as a bootmaker developing an extensive business. His father passed in 1934 and in his obituary it noted that as a young man in Scotland he was associated with the Highland Light Infantry.

Alexander Munro Jnr. born in 1883 would have been a rather young man when he enlisted given the 1st QMI embarked in Nov 1899. This suggests he either lowered his date of birth to enlist, or was born in the latter months of 1882 and his birth was not registered until the early months of 1883. Either way he probably had his father's support to enlist given his father's previous association with the military.

Under the name of Alexander Jamison Munro he married widower Harriet Jeannette Muir (nee Crocker) on 7 Jan 1909 in Queensland. They resided at Birkdale in the Redland Bay district where he was a farmer.
