Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Gilbert Bryce Munro enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father J. B. Munro, Aramac. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB Bk 2, p. 54, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his sister Miss M. Munro, Aramac.

Gilbert Bryce Munro was born about 1876 in Glasgow, Scotland, a son to John Bryce Munro and Agnes Munro (nee McCrindle). He married Kathleen Berbuna Fox on 18 Sep 1913 in Queensland and they had 6 children. After serving in the Boer War he returned to the Aramac area and worked in western Queensland on grazing properties before he relocated the family to Bowen where he worked at the salt works.
