Albert Charles Murch was born on 4 Dec 1876 at Bampton, Devon, England, a son to John Murch and Elizabeth Grace Bessie Murch (nee Merson). Its unclear when he arrived in Queensland but he served in the South African (Boer) War with the 4th Qld Contingent between May 1900 and Aug 1901 and married Jane Kathleen Chapman on 22 Apr 1909 in Queensland.

He served in both the South African (Boer) War and WW2 (home duties). First service was as a Private S.N. 158 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service was as a Private S.N. Q222796 in the 21 Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps (QLD), WW2.
