George Tanner Noakes was born on 21 Dec 1879 at Bundaberg, Queensland, a son to George Noakes and Margaret Noakes (nee Clark). He married Martha Margaret Workman on 19 Mar 1906 in Queensland and she passed away in 1919. He then remarried to Bessie Evelyn Trevor on 22 Dec 1920 in Queensland. He had seven children, four with his first wife.

He lived in Bundaberg and worked as a Veterinary Surgeon serving the Bundaberg region.
