Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

William Charles Owens was born on 30 Jan 1880 at Ipswich, Queensland, a son to Robert Owens and  Elizabeth Owens (nee Davis). On enlistment for the 5th QIB he noted his N.O.K. as his brother Hugh William Owens at Booval, Queensland, with instructions for part of his service pay to go to his brother. Boer War Service Paybooks for 5th QIB held by Qld State Archives indicate that this was changed as his brother had passed and his funeral was on the day the unit embarked for South Africa.

He married Ada Laura Agnes Trevis on 13 Feb 1904 in Queensland and they had 7 children, and was last residing at Silkstone, Ipswich, Queensland.
