Captain Pendlebury is the first officer of the staff to be appointed Staff Officer for Light Horse and Infantry in Western Australia, the duties pertaining to which have hitherto been performed by the already overtaxed Captain Darvall. C.S.O., since the scheme of amalgamation. It is a coincidence that  Captain Pendlebury first joined the same regiment as his chief, and like the latter, also held the appointment of adjutant. As a lieutenant Captain  Pendlebury went to South Africa with the first Victorian contingent, commanded by the late Major Eddie. He was present and took part in the  engagements at Colesberg, Karee Siding, Brandfort, Vet River, Zand River. Kroonstadt. Johannesburg. Pretoria, Diamond Hill and Devil's Kantoor. In  1902 he again proceeded to South Africa, on this occasion as captain of a squadron of the 2nd Battalion. Australian Commonwealth Horse. He has the  Queen's medal with five clasps, and the Kinq's medal with one clasp. He was appointed to the instructional staff of Victoria on January 21, 1901 staff officer for the 3rd Brigade Australian Light Horse, on July 1 1903  and staff officer for Light Horse and Infantry of Western Australia on January 1 1905.
