Charles Daniel Rapp was born on 22 Jan 1867 at Hobart, Tasmania, a son to George Rapp and Esther Rapp (nee Jackson). When he enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs Esther Rapp, Hobart, Tasmania.

Newspaper reports and Qld State Archives- Boer War Service Paybooks 5th QIB notes he was discharged in South Africa 26 Mar 1902 in order to take up employment there.
