Charles Reid served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private (S.N. 79) in the 2nd Queensland Mounted Infantry, and secondly as a Corporal (S.N. 1967) in the 3rd Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse. Details provided in Boer War Dossier for S.N. 1967 held by National Archives Australia.
