Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Edney James Richardson enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs. E. Richardson, Goodna. His name was incorrectly published as Henry James Richardson (similarly on nominal roll with note of later correction). In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, p. 197, recorded under Edney James Richardson, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. N. Richardson.

He was born Edney James Etretat Richardson in 1882 at Essex, England, a son to Edney "Derek" Richardson  and Ellen Sarah "Nellie" Richardson (nee Wiles). He ventured with his parents and 2 siblings to Queensland aboard the Dacca in 1887 arriving in Queensland and settling at Goodna. He married Lena Ernstine Henreitte Hopp on 8 Nov 1905 at Woolloongabba, Brisbane and they had one child and resided at Goodna. Know as "Dick" he was involved in sports, a credentialed rifle marksman, and worked as a sports store manager in Brisbane.
