Captain John Robertson, of the Victorian Regiment of the Royal Australian Artillery, has been appointed to the command of the West Australian unit of the Second Commonwealth Contingent. Captain Robertson is a brother of Lieutenant W. St. L. The funeral of Colonel William St,. Leonard Robertson, who died at his home, Domain Road, South Yarra, on Sunday, took place today.
Colonel Robertson served in the Boer War and was Director of Remounts for the Australian Army from 1912 to 1927.
At the time of his death, he was Master of Horse to the Governor-General.
He retired from the Army in 1929, and in 1927 was awarded the CBE.
Educated at Melbourne Grammar, he was keenly interested in rowing and rowed in the Oxford University crew. He was 86, and leaves a widow, a son and a daughter." from The Herald 1 Aug 1950 (nla.gov.au)
