Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When George William Rockley enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father J. G. Rockley, Bowen Hills. Note- he was reported in the newspaper with the incorrect service number of 484.

In the original nominal roll for the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, he is recorded under service number 487 and his N.O.K. is recorded as his father James G. Rockley, Bowen Hills. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 152, under service number 487 his address after discharge is noted as Abbotsford Rd, Bowen Hills.

George William Rockley was born in 1875 at Toorak, Melbourne, a son to James George Rockley and Janet Rockley (nee Russell).
