Richie (Richard John Loveday) was born in 1878 at Reedbeds via Adelaide in South Australia, sixth of seven children of Robert (Alec) Alexander Rose (b1841 in Banffshire, Scotland) and Ann Loveday (b1842 in Limerick, Ireland). Alec immigrated with his parents and siblings abt 1842 - his father was killed in 1843 near Onkaparinga). Ann arrived in Adelaide in 1847 with her parents and siblings on board the Royal George. Alec (a Farm Worker) and Ann married in Findon, South Australia where they raised their family and Alec was a Farm Worker and Labourer.
Richie worked as a Labourer and with horses at St Vincent's Gulf before enlisting for service in the Boer War. He moved to Western Australia in the mid 1900s, working as a Possum and Kangaroo Shooter at Tambrey Station via Coolgardie in 1906. By 1911 Richie had purchased land in Pingelly WA when he married Phoebe Ann Edwards (b1884 in Devon, England) - Phoebe, a General Servant, immigrated in 1910, arriving in Albany WA on board the SS Rimutaka. Richie and Phoebe settled in Pingelly where Richie was a Farmer. Following Phoebe's death in 1919, their four surviving children were raised in a Church School and Richie remained in Pingelly where he was a Farmer. Richie retired to Perth where he died in 1960.
