Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Lindsay was the eldest of fifteen children of Eugene Frederick Rudder (born 1841 in Sydney, NSW) and Annie Thornton (born 1853 at Port Macquarrie, NSW). Eugene was a Farmer at Macleay River, NSW in 1864 and married Annie in 1872.

Lindsay was a Farmer (sharing land grants with his father and brother at Bellangry) when he enlisted (initially with the NSW Citizens' Bushmens Contingent) with NSW Imperial Bushmen as a Trooper (Service No:1382) and embarked for South Africa. He married Grace Dolphin Clendennon-Smith (born 1889 in Durban, South Africa) on 1 January 1905 at Cape Town in South Africa. Two of his brothers - Howard and Roger - also moved to South Africa in 1902. Brother Oswald George (Gunner; Service No:1472) died in WWI.

In September 1908 Lindsay and Grace arrived in Sydney, NSW on board the Militades with son Arnold (Barney) Eugene. The family moved to Grafton, NSW, then to Cobaki Creek at Tweed Heads where Lindsay was a Banana Farmer. Lindsay died in 1943 and Grace in 1945.
