Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When George Daniel Savill enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father W. M. Savill, Byron Bay, NSW. His brother, Frederick Herbert Savill S.N. 220, had also enlisted in the 5th QIB.

In an article in Table Talk (Melb), 22 May 1902, p. 6, under the title of Personal, it was reported that his was one two families in Lismore to send 4 to 5 sons to the Boer War. It notes the other brothers as William and Alfred (who remained in South Africa). William Walter Saville (b. 1868) S.N. 164 1st Qld Mounted Infantry and Alfred Edward Saville (b. 1871) S.N. 734 NSW Lancers.

George Daniel Savill (BDM NSW register shows Saville) was born in 1874 in Lismore, NSW, a son to William Savill and Mary Ann Savill (nee French). He married Ada H. P. Lee in 1905 at Lismore, NSW.

He was a farmer for many years (eggs and bees) in the Murwillumbah and Byron areas. His father passed in 1933 in Queensland and a newspaper article in Oct 1934 noted he made a claim on his father's estate for land transfer while he was residing at Enmore, Sydney. When he passed in 1953 his death notice in The Sydney Morning Herald noted he was late of Yanderra, a village about 70km from Sydney.
