Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
Norman Thorne Seccombe served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private (S.N. 97) in the 2nd Queensland Mounted Infantry and secondly as a Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse both recorder in the single Boer War Dossier held by the National Archives of Autralia.
Despite both records of service giving his name as Norman Thorne Seccombe, the AWM Boer War Nominal Roll names him as Norman Thorpe seccombe for his first service (Murray p. 461) and then Norman Thorne Seccombe for his second service (Murray p. 527 also confirms previous service in 2nd Queensland Mounted Infantry).
Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey
Though he stated on his attestation paper for his second service in the Boer War that he was born at Gosford, the NSW BDM records indicate Norman Thorne Seccombe was born in 1873 at Paterson, News South Wales, a son to George William Raby Thorne Seccombe and Amy Annie Seccombe (nee Naylor). He was a brother of William Thomas Thorne Seccombe who also served as a Private S.N. 98 in the 2nd Queensland Mounted Infantry. Like his brother it appears he may have returned to South Africa after the war to settle there.
