Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Ernest John Hollingworth Shadforth was born 23 Apr 1865 at Wangaratta, Victoria, a son to Francis Henry Shadforth and Louisa Georgina Shadforth (nee Hutchings). Its unclear when the family moved to Queensland, however, he gave his father as N.O.K. liviing at Burketown, Queensland, when he enlisted for the South African (Boer) War in 1900.

On completion of his service with the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen he returned to North Queensland for a period. He then ventured to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he worked as Livestock Manager at a large meatworks. He passed away on 13 Jul 1921 at Buenos Aires without information as to whether he had married or of his final resting place. His father predeceased him on 21 Dec 1914 at Mount Garnet in North Queensland.
