When William John Sharland enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs. R. Sharland, New Farm. He was born on 22 Nov 1878 in Queensland, a son to Richard Sharland and Elizabeth Ann Sharland. He married Mary Ann Glassey on 10 Jun 1908 in Queensland and they had 2 children.
