Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Albert Shaw enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as C. H. Shaw, The Ridges, Mackay. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 188, it is noted part of his pay was directed to his father Mr. C. H. Shaw, The Ridges, Northside, Mackay.

Albert Shaw was born in 1880 in England, a son to Charles Henry Shaw and Anna (Hannah) Elizabeth Shaw (nee Keep). His parents emigrated from England with two babies aboard the ship Roma arriving at Mackay in late 1882. Albert Shaw married Bridget Bibbie Bourke on 26 Feb 1913 in Queensland and they had 1 child. His early days were spent farming with his father in Mackay before taking an interest in mining at Mungana (near Chillagoe) via Mareeba where he was living when he married.
