Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Farquhar Shaw enlisted in 1901 and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as F. Shaw, Headquarters, Q.D.F., Brisbane. In the original nominal roll for the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, his N.O.K. is recorded as being his father.

Farquhar Shaw was born on 27 Jun 1881 in Queensland, a son to Frederick Ellison Shaw and Helen Masterton Shaw (nee Aberdeen). He married Alice Gray on 3 Sep 1906 in Queensland and they had 4 children. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 1 p. 25, it is noted after discharge he was granted a pass to travel to Geralton, Johnstone River. Geraldton was renamed by the state government in 1910 to Innisfail. Newspaper reports indicate he spent most of his adult life post discharge in the north of Queensland.
