Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
When David Sheehan enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs. Sheehan, North Pine. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 89, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. J. Sheehan, North Pine. The placename of North Pine changed to Petrie in 1911.
David Sheehan was born on 20 Jun 1872 in Queensland, a son to David Sheehan and Johanna Sheehan (nee O'Brien). The Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB note that following his discharge he applied for a disability pension on 25 Aug 1902 and this was approved for life. When he passed in 1949 his probate notice published in newspapers indicate he was a pensioner last living at Kalangur via Petrie, which is in the vicinity of the old North Pine location.
