On  21 April 1888, Archibald James Peters was born in Stirling East, South Australia. Before enlisting, Archibald had worked as a gardner. He had no previous military service on his record.

 Archibald's family,had consisted of his father  (Richard Peters), his mother ( Ada Cora Jacobs) his two brothers ( Sydney Alan Peters and Howard Bishop Peters) and his three sisters ( Edna Annie Peters, Lilla Birtha Peters and Elizabeth Harriet Peters). He was the eldest son in his family. Archibald had married Hedwig Elizabeth Kiesewetter in Unley, South Australia, on 27 May 1916. They were the parents of Thelma Annie Peters.

Archibald James Peters was a 5ft 7in man that had dark-brown hair and brown eyes. His religion was Methodism.

Archibald had enlisted on 8 June 1916, in Adelaide, South Australia. He had embarked on 12 August 1916, and the ship he was on, was the HMAT A70 Ballarat. Archibald's unit was the 19 reinforcements for the 10th battalion, whilst he had been moved to another unit.

During Archibald's service, he did not get sick. However, he was wounded in action on the 24 August 1918 suffering from a gunshot wound to the head in Rouen, France whilst he had been transported to Duchess Connaught Hospital in Taplow, England on the 25 August 1918.

Archibald James Peters had returned from service back to South Australia.
