Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Rowland Sleight served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N. 296 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry. He did not return to Australia with the rest of the 3rd QMI, newspaper reports have him sailing to England from Cape Town on 17 May 1901. He then joined the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen at some point after they arrived in Cape Town on 2 May 1901 at the rank of Lieutenant (Supernumerary).
