Boer War Service

1 Oct 1899: Involvement Private, 296, 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry
1 Mar 1900: Embarked Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Private, 296, 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, AWM Boer War Unit Details, Murray p. 463 notes 3rd QMI embarked 1 Mar 1900 aboard Duke of Portland arriving Cape Town 2 Apr 1900.
17 May 1901: Discharged Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Lieutenant, 296, 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 473 and 510 note he did not return to Australia with the 3rd QMI and joined the 6th QIB at rank of Lieutenant in South Africa after they arrived at Cape Town on 2 May 1901. Newspaper reports indicate he sailed from Cape Town for England 17 May 1901 at the rank of Lieutenant.

Rowland Sleight served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N. 296 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry. He did not return to Australia with the rest of the 3rd QMI, newspaper reports have him sailing to England from Cape Town on 17 May 1901. He then joined the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen at some point after they arrived in Cape Town on 2 May 1901 at the rank of Lieutenant (Supernumerary).
