Husband of Mary Ann SLOAN nee COOPER
The death occurred suddenly at Heidelberg Station early on Friday evening Jan. 30 of William Christopher Sloan, at the age of 84 years. The deceased gentleman, who was well and favourably known in Collinsville and surrounding district, was a native of England, and had followed mining during most of his lifetime at Kidston, Clermont, Nebo and other parts of this State, and had also conducted a butcher's shop at Mount Coolon in the early days of that field, and had resided at Heidelberg Station for a long period of his life. The deceased was a Boer War veteran and enjoyed a wide circle of friends, who will sincerely regret his sudden demise. He leaves a sorrowing son, two daughters and five grandchildren to mourn their great loss. The funeral left the Church of England at 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, Mr. E. Finch performing the last sad rites at the graveside. Members of the Collinsville Sub-Branch R.S.S.A.I.L.A. acted as pall bearers, and "The Last Post" was sounded by Bugler V. Guy.
