Arthur Smith was the son of John Smith and Harriett Smith (nee Finney). At the time of his enlistment for the South African (Boer) War his parents were farmers at Nambour, Queensland. At the time of his passing he had been living at Hugh Street, Meeandah (now Pinkenbah), Queensland.
