Arthur Frederick Smith was born 3 June 1879 in Shadwell, England (a son to John Smith and Louisa Caroline Smith nee Hunt, BDM Qld)

When Arthur Frederick Smith attested on 18 March 1901 at age 21 years 9 months, he became Private 165 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushman Regiment. He was discharged on 12 May 1902 after serving for 1 year and 39 days.

On his return he married Mary Williams of Mt. Cotton and for a time settled in the area (married Maray Alice Williams on 5 Sep 1905, BDM Qld). For a time Arthur moved to Birkdale.In 1926 he moved to Beaconsfield in Moreton Street. He had four children: Ruth, Daisy, Leslie and Val. He died on 19 November 1944 (he was a fruit grower who had resided and farmed in the Thornlands area for many years).
