Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
When Harry Smith enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father H. Smith, Merrivale St, South Brisbane. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 2 p. 115, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. E. Smith, Merrivale St, South Brisbane.
Harry Smith was born on 5 Jul 1880 in Queensland, a son to Harry Smith and Eliza Smith (nee Watson). He married Violet Tilley on 27 Nov 1912 in Queensland and they had 4 Children. He resided for a lengthy period in Beaudesert where in 1905 he was a founding member of the Beaudesert Rifle Club, and was the last of the founding members when he passed in 1970.
