DEATH OF MR D.
STIBBARDS
BARCALDINE, May 18. Mr. D. Stlbbard , 79, died at Blackall on Thursday. His body was interred at Barcaldine today. Mr Stibbards was a foundation member of the RSL in 1919 and  also a foundation member of the Royal Society of St. George. He was a Boer War veteran.

David Stibbards was born on 3 Feb 1872 in Longton, England, a son to David Stibbards and Martha Stibbards (nee Dawson). At the age of 19 he emigrated to Queensland making his way to Barcaldine and then venturing to Tamworth, NSW. He married Ada Mary Adams in 1895 at Tamworth with their first daughter born there in 1897.

After joining and serving with the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen in the South African (Boer) War he returned with his family to Barcaldine. He worked a variety of occupations in the area establishing a number of butcher shops, a skating rink and picture show, building and opening the Radio Theatre in 1926, and spent his later years as a grazier on his property 'Hanley' outside Barcaldine.

He and Ada raised 8 children.
