Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
When Thomas Henry Strong enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father J. Strong, Yeerongpilly. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 70, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his younger brother Mr. C. J. (Charles Joseph) Strong, Yeerongpilly.
Thomas Henry Strong was born on 31 Jul 1880 at Yeerongpilly, Brisbane, a son to James Strong and Margaret Ann Wandless Strong (nee Quinn). He married Mary Margaret O'Day on 22 Mar 1905 at St. Mary's Church, Beaudesert. They were farmers in the Beaudesert/Scenic Rim area and had 9 children.
When he passed in Beaudesert Hospital at the age of 72 in 1952 an obituary was published in The Beaudesert Times, 18 Jul 1952, with the following information extracted from it.
He was born at Yeerongpilly and after attending Yeronga School, went to work on the land prior to enlisting for the Boer war in 1900. Following his discharge in 1902 he ventured to Beaudesert working for Mr. deBurgh Persse at Tabragalba. In 1905 he married Mary Margaret O'Day, a Beaudesert native, at St. Mary's Church in Beaudesert.
They followed their occupation of farming at various locations including Glenapp, Jimboomba, Beaudesert, Gympie, Nerang and finally at Christmas Creek where they remained for thirteen years until ill health forced Thomas to retire and they moved into Beaudesert.
In his youth he was a avid sportsman in the area as a footballer, cricketer and tennis player. He was also a keen patriotic worker during both wars at Nerang and Christmas Creek. At the time of his passing he was survived by his widow, four sons and three daughters.
