Full name Frederick Norman Thompson.
He served in both the South African (Boer) war and WW1. His first service was as a Private S.N. 450, 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer war. His second service was as a Corporal S.N. 84, 11th Light Horse Regiment, AIF, WW1. He enlisted on both occasions under the name Frederick Thompson.
When he enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father W. F. Thompson, Aramac. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 116, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. F. Thompson, Aramac. His father was a well known buisness man in the Aramac district and at the time was running a general store in Aramac.
He enlisted again in 1915 for WW1 and on his Attestation Paper, dated 6 Jan 1915, it is noted that; he was born at Clermont and was 31 years 3 months old; he was single and a Stockman; his N.O.K. was his father W. Thompson, Queens Rd., Townsville; and he had previously served in South Africa with the 5th QIB.
Frederick Norman Thompson was born about 1881 at Coperfield, Clermont, Queensland, a son to William Frost Thompson and Mary Frances Thompson (nee Duggan). When he passed in May 1940 an obituary published in the Townsville Daily Bulletin noted he was born at Coperfield, Clermont and was 59 years of age.
He married Georgina Annie Cooley on 8 Apr 1921 in Queensland and they had 6 children. After his WW1 service and marriage he continued to work as a stockman. He was working on a cattle station near Collinsville in 1940 when during a muster he was badly gored by a bull. He was taken to the Collinsville hospital but passed away from the injuries on 6 May 1940.
