Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When James Thompson enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as G. Thompson, Caboolture.

In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 2 p. 122, it indicates after he was invalided and returned from South Africa in 1902 he was living at Gill St, Charters Towers. A follow-up entry appears to have him located at Flinders St, Townsville, working as a confectionist.
