Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Robert Thwaites enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his parents, Rose St, Thorroldtown. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 32, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his father Mr. J. W. Thwaites, Rose St, Thoroldtown.

Thorold Town was developed as a residential estate in Brisbane in 1882 and later became part of the present day suburb of Wooloowin.

Robert Thwaites was born around 1880, a son to John Wilson Thwaites and Mary Ann Bainbridge.
