Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

William Towley Walker appears to have had his name incorrectly transcribed by Murray, p. 510, in the AWM Boer War Nominal Roll. When he enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he was recorded as William Turley Walker with N.O.K. Mrs. E. M. Walker, Mackay. The Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, p. 36, held by the Qld State Archives also list him as William Turley Walker.

William Turley Walker was born on 14 Mar 1871 in Queensland, a son to Charles Walker and Emma Mary Walker (nee Mehan). He married Jessie Alexandra Kinnear on 6 Jan 1911 in Queensland and resided in the Mackay region where he worked as a Station Hand.
