When Daniel Wanless enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs. Wanless, Pashley St, Balmain, NSW. On the Australian Boer War Memorial database in his biographical entry, based on information provided by a Great Great Niece, it is noted he was born in 1865.

Daniel Wanless was born on 1 Jan 1865 at Sydney, NSW, a son to Richard (Joseph on QLD BDM death register) Wanless and Jane Phillips. He married Elizabeth Emma Bromfield, from Roma, on 6 Sep 1902 at Newstead, Brisbane. They were living at 318 Adelaide St, Brisbane City, when he passed in 1912.
