When William Warlow enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father G. Warlow, East Brisbane.

He was born William Mathias Warlow on 1 Jan 1882 at Gloucestershire, England, a son to George Warlow and Elizabeth Warlow (nee Howell). He was three times married. He married Lillian Agnes Donaldson on 3 Sep 1903 in Queensland and they had 4 children before Lillian passed in Maryborough in 1914. He then married Matilda Madeline O'Connor on 20 Oct 15 at Lismore NSW and they had 3 children in Queensland before Matilda passed in 1932. He then married  Irene Barbara Morgan-Thomas on 21 Jun 1949 in Queensland.

He was living at the Commercial Hotel in Maryborough, of which he was the licensee, when his first wife passed in 1914. He was later declared insolvent in Jun 1915.
